Sourcing Option

Many ISVs set up sourcing and distribution arrangements with a number of hardware manufacturers and offer their end-users the ability to purchase hardware via themselves. While this provides the end-user with choices, it could actually be reducing your profitability:

  • Costly Inventory Overheads:

    • Many hardware manufacturers require you to purchase and hold your own levels of inventory, potentially at a level greater than you would wish to hold. This generates expense for you as valuable capital is tied up in equipment. Additionally you suffer the costs of warehousing, equipment handling and distribution.

  • Distraction from Core Business:

    • As an ISV, your core competencies revolve around the development and marketing of your software products. Successful hardware distribution requires infrastructure changes and management of the procurement, inventory control and shipping processes. Investing in these areas can direct valuable funding away from your software development activities and cause a loss of focus on your core business operation.

  • Inefficient Deployment Process:

    • Supplying hardware from a range of manufacturers can extend your deployment processes. Although you benefit from holding hardware in-house (and being able to pre-load your application prior to shipping), the complexities of loading software onto different hardware configurations can increase the time taken for each deployment, costing you money.

  • Lack of Control:

    • Tier 1 hardware manufacturers often change configurations with little prior notification. As a customer of these manufacturers you may have to deal with product changes at short notice. If successful operation of your software is dependent upon a consistent configuration, such changes can cause disruption to deployment or cause additional customer support issues.

  • Complex Support Process:

    • You need to be able to support end-users operating on a range of hardware platforms.  You have to understand the ways in which each hardware configuration affects the operation of your software application and be able to correctly identify and resolve any incoming support calls. This causes additional internal training requirements for your support staff with the associated increase in expenses.

To help overcome and remove these obstacles, GLED offers the ISV Partnership Program – a unique way to meet the hardware requirements of your end-users while driving up your service efficiencies and customer satisfaction levels. Read more about the features of our service and understand how using GLED as your hardware supplier will benefit your business.
