Great Lakes Electronic Distributing, Inc. (GLED), was founded by Michael Boyczuk in 1985. In the early years the company was primarily a distributor of computer supplies, accessories and peripherals to storefront resellers. In 1989, GLED moved into PC system sales and by early 1990 took the next logical step: They began building their own line of custom PC systems which they then marketed to computer resellers.

In the late 1990s GLED expanded its market to include sales to Direct Education customers. These markets included K-12 Education in Pennsylvania and New York. It was at this time that GLED pursued, and was awarded, state contracts that are required to successfully do business in these markets. GLED received the “Most Growth in Education Market” award in September 2002 at the Gartner System Builder Summit and again in March 2003 at the Intel Solution Summit.

In 2001, GLED entered the software vendor market and was able to successfully drive sales to Independent Software Vendors (ISV) and their end users. Sales in this market are complex and highly competitive, and GLED is well suited to deliver stable platforms to run in end user locations for a specific period of time.

In April 2003, GLED acquired ISO 9001:2000 certification on their first attempt, which was indicative of GLED's commitment to Quality and Customer Service. GLED received ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2010, further demonstrating GLED's continued commitment to Quality and Customer Service.

In June 2008, Michael Boyczuk withdrew from the day to day operations of GLED and was succeeded by Norman Boyczuk as President and CEO. The transition was completed successfully. Today, GLED’s management team strives to continue the success and prosperity that was enjoyed under its founder.
